The presence of Knox Community College in May Pen dates back to the mid - 1980's.
Throughout this period
professional
courses were offered, one being the Certified Professional Secretarial (CPS) course, offered on
a part-time basis at various sites in May Pen. These sites include the Mineral Heights
Primary School, the May Pen Court House and the Parish Council Building. For one reason
or another, these locations were not considered
conducive to learning; hence the venues were changed and the programmes offered were eventually discontinued.
However, the late and founding Principal
Mrs. Helen Stills did not give up her dreams of having a permanent campus in May
Pen and throughout her tenure actively sought an appropriate site for the
campus. When the former Free zone Factory site in Foga Road, Denbigh became
available; then Principal, Mrs. Hewitt-Buckle seized the opportunity to
acquire the premises as the new location of the May Pen campus.
This campus has responded to the needs of
the May Pen Community and its environs by offering both full- time and part-time courses in various areas. One area of innovation is the
offering of the University
Council of Jamaica (UCJ) Accredited Bachelor of Education Degree. The institution remains flexible as it continues to grow and
broaden its horizons.
